UTI is a disease that causes discomfort in adults, not to mention children. Children who are infected with UTI
will think twice going to the toilet whenever they have the urge to pass their urine.
Urinary tract infection in children makes urinating extremely painful for this children. The infections, caused
by bacteria, causes painful urination and causes their pee to smell bad.
Most of the children are not aware that they are getting UTI because they do not know what UTI is. Parents
should take of any signs of urinary tract infection as
children do not express themselves well.
Ask Your Little Children Questions
Once the child exhibits UTI symptoms, depending on severity, ask him questions related to the urinary tract
infection symptoms such as
- Does he feel pain while urinating
- Did he have any abdomen pain
- How often does he goes to the toilet
- How much urine is drained
- What is the color and smell of the pee
If your child replied a YES to more than 2 questions, it is time to pay a visit to the doctor to verify if your
little children have UTI.
During the diagnose, the doctor will need your child's urine sample for testing. Depending on the results, he
will prescribe the necessary medicine to your child, which are usually antibiotics.
However, if the bacteria infection has spread to the kidney, he may be hospitalized, during which, the doctor
will observe him and remove the bacteria from his body. Medicine will be given once he is discharge.
In both cases, make sure he takes his medicine daily to cure his urinary infection problems.
Recovery Phase from UTI
After a child is treated from UTI, the parents should educate the child how to avoid such incidents in
the future.
Personal Cleanliness is a must. Daily showers must be taken and private parts should be cleaned and kept dry
after shower. Wear cotton underwear to absorb moisture from the private area. Whenever possible, clean with wipes
or papers after urinating to keep the private areas dry. See methods to prevent UTI
The child should be encourage to drink more fluid during this period to increase the rate of
flushing the unwanted bacteria out of his urine tract.
As parents, our role is to prevent such diseases and protect them whenever possible. Hence, always have a talk
with them regularly and get them to express themselves to ensure that they are not having other illness
including UTI.
